On the Back Cover

Supernatural boundaries will be crossed as Angel of Death, Nathaniel Evans, risks his eternal soul to save the one he loves, the paranormally gifted and nature-loving, Juliana Crowson.

While working with a new client, Nathaniel finds out that pissing off a demon-wielding warlock in order to help a suicidal teen with misplaced sexual tendencies may be the last thing he ever does as an angel. Unable to stand aside, Juliana’s involvement in Nathaniel’s new case quickly develops into a misadventure with gun-toting bikers, table dancing, and a shamanic exorcism performed by her temperamental Native American friend, Chris Abeyta.

Can Nathaniel and Juliana’s love endure blood-letting rituals in the forest while helping a terrified teen find the will to live, or will fate and the rules of the afterlife tear them eternally apart?

Read an Excerpt from the Novel

I reach for her left hand and she lets me take it. “I only want to keep you safe. Is that all right?”

She bites her lower lip and then looks up at me. “You can’t be everywhere all the time, can you?”

“No. But for you, I wish I could be.”

“Certain things are out of our control.”

“That doesn’t mean I have to like it, but I know. You asked me what the matter was earlier. This is it. I realized anything could happen to you and I can’t control it. We have just started to know each other. It terrified me, and now this.” I glance down at her red finger.

“Nathan. I, you…we just have to stay in the moment. This,” She holds up her index finger showing me the swollen side and the drying blood, “is a perk of my job. Not a deadly accident. If anything does happen to me, or you, at least we knew each other. Even for a short time. Right?”

“Getting injured on the job is not a perk, it’s a hazard,” I argue.

Our relationship is just starting, so no. A short time is not good enough for me. When I’m with Juliana I can only imagine eternity together, not minutes. The way she stares at me, with caring eyes, and her kissable mouth, it’s so innocent and alive. It makes me want to lock her away in a cell with both of us inside and never see any threat or harm come near her again.

“I want you, Juliana. I want to know you. I want to see your face in the morning light and be with you until you fall asleep at night. I want to hold your hand as we walk in these woods, not just today, but always. What I don’t want, what I can’t live with, is a collection of fading memories and a well full of regret.” I watch her closely looking for any shift of uneasiness as I pour out my soul to her.

She looks up at me. Her face is open and the honesty I see echoes my own.

“We will know each other,” she assures me, and then she seals her words by leaning forward on her tiptoes and brushing her perfect pink lips over mine.

Welcome back! Today I’m featuring Louann Carroll and her newest release ~ The Light and The Flame. Ms. Carroll is hosting a rafflecopter giveaway, so make sure and enter below. Let’s read more about the book!

Gemini 2

On The Back Cover

Trouble arises and concern ripples through the Olam. Kate is unable to make the transition from human to bond mate and her dreams of returning to Earth with Noah are crushed. Uriel will become Kate’s mentor while Noah is dispatched to Naresh, his home planet and to his people to whom the Light no longer speaks.

Will Kate become the bond mate she is meant to be? Will Noah find welcome with his people or will they despise him for taking the Light from their souls. Most important of all, will the prophecy of Lucia be fulfilled, or will Belial, demon of Hades, murder her in a fit of jealous rage?

Read an Excerpt

“Enough!” Belial shouted, causing a comet to rip across the skies of Ursula in the seventh dimension. “The Light makes us gods then ignores us.” After sipping Goshen from a fragile glass, he threw the cup across the room, taking pleasure as it shattered against a far wall.

“Be calm, my favored one. Be still.”

“Why did the Light choose humans?” Belial demanded.

His clone shrugged.

When not preoccupied with other matters, this thought was compulsive. Rejected and alone, Belial paced his office. At last, he sat in the Reiki hoping it would calm him. Glancing at Manov he frowned as his clone hovered nearby.

Manov blushed, his hands trembling even as he tried to pour another glass of Goshen, known for its calming powers.

The clone’s dimwitted brain was easy for Belial to read. Replicates were either exceptionally smart or stupid and Manov was as stupid as they came.

Manov asked, “Is there anything else I can get you?”

“No.” Belial, one of the first created souls and a crowned prince of Hades, rose from the Reiki and walked to the window. He leaned over the parapet, breathing deeply. The blue cornflower had awakened last evening, filling Corseca with the most delightful scent.

“The city is beautiful, yes?” Manov asked.

Growling, Belial cried, “Get away from me. I wish to be alone.” At times, his temper fell upon the witless Manov. A pang of guilt surfaced; a left over emotion from his days with Sheren, his banished wife and mother to his three sons. She had attempted to make his conscience take root, to flourish like hers, and for her he had even tried to create one. But when she left him for the Light, his fledgling empathy died, well, mostly died. It would take eons to get it completely out of his system.

Glancing out the window, tall towers of crushed corinthen shell glistened in the lowering light, while an angry ocean crested against white sand beaches. He heard Manov exit the chamber, closing the door, the raspy sound grating on his nerves.

“By the Light,” he whispered. He rested his eyes on stormy seas, his soul taking part in the creation and destruction of the planet. He had a fondness for the clone and berated himself for being cruel, another emotion best left to the ethers. Still, looking at Manov was like peering into a mirror. Hurting him was like destroying a piece of himself.

The Light had given first angels the power of creation and procreation, if the desire was present. Belial had quickly cloned himself. It was a much cleaner process than birthing and didn’t require a female.

He often sat in wonderment, staring at Manov, amazed at the powers the Light had bestowed. The day after the Light came to know Itself angels entered the universe. Born in varying hues, they had personalities that ranged from angelic perfection to himself and Lucifer, both filled with jealousy, hatred, and willfulness. One of the first born, they fell at the feet of the Light in agony, the love filling them too much to bear.

From that moment on, he gave allegiance only to the Light and to no other soul, including humans, and he expected the same from his creator. His bitterness ran deep when All That Is made humans Its chosen people. They were nasty creatures, always simpering, pleading, praying, locked into their dark world by choice. Why in Hades would anyone want that kind of life?

Hissing, he turned away from the window. It was not just humans he found distasteful, but most creatures in the universe. Filled with things like love, compassion, and that hateful word, empathy, they roamed the universe seeking to do good to others. He didn’t want to know what empathy felt like and he had no room for love.

Rage threatened to overtake him.

After all, what had all that goodness done for him? Three sons had he by Sheren. Three! How stupid could he be? He howled with regret, the window mirroring his anger as the great change began. Born amidst his fury, the bestiality would overtake his angelic persona in moments.  Their firstborn son, Haonshalom, he’d killed with his own hand, or rather talon. He brought up an arm and wiggled his fingers. In a flash, one elongated, baring a razor sharp spike. He’d driven it into his son’s heart then killed the woman he’d married and their newborn son.

Maer Wilson’s Portals ~ Blog Tour & Giveaway!

Welcome back! Maer Wilson joins us today for a look at Portals.

portals 400x600

Portals

For supernatural detectives Thulu and La Fi, “normal” is a relative term. La Fi is a medium, Thulu is a finder, and their usual clients are already dead.

But when their friend Reo is shot, and a group of stranded angels shows up at their house for help finding a missing child, things are striking too close to home.

And the portals that let the magical races return to Earth are opening on their own.

With trips off-world, a kidnapped psychic and changes to their own abilities, Thulu and La Fi are hit with a lot more than they usually handle. Of course, their magical friends are there to help, but even they may not be enough to save an increasingly unstable Earth.

Portals is the cross genre (Sci Fi/Urban Fantasy) sequel to Relics and is Book 2 in the Modern Magics series.

Portals can be found at these retailers:

Amazon – Kindle     |     Amazon – Paperback

Barnes & Noble – Nook     |     iTunes

Read on for more and to enter the giveaway. Grand Prize is a Kindle…

Excerpt from Portals:

It took a while to make our way through the chaos, doing our best to avoid the slashes from swords and daggers. I could barely breathe from fear. A daemon appeared before us, his sword raised to strike down at us. Thulu moved closer to me, doing his best to shield us with his backpack. The blow never came, as the tip of a sword grew from the daemon’s chest. His body crashed to the floor, and we skirted it on our way forward once more. Our heavy backpacks caused some issues as we traveled across the room, but after that episode neither of us was willing to drop them.

The screams of the injured and dying tore at my heart, but we finally saw glimpses of the portal. The portal was still ours. Dhavenbahtek and a few guards were fighting off the other daemons, as they tried to pull people closer and shove them through the portal.

As we made it to the platform, Dhavenbahtek saw us and immediately moved to pull us forward. I took a quick look around the room and saw that most of the fighting was now between daemons. I saw no Light Ones standing and hoped most had gotten through. A few elves were moving toward the portal. I caught sight of wings in their midst and realized they were guarding a Light One child.

More daemons appeared, but whose side they were on, I had no idea. Since the number of people had greatly thinned out as they’d gone through the portal, visibility became much easier.

I heard an unearthly scream again as Satorah saw she had a clear path to Dhavenbahtek. She held a dagger in her hand and flew toward him. He held a sword so big I couldn’t have lifted it. Her hatred blazed through her eyes. Dhavenbahtek spared a moment to sweep Thulu and me through the portal. My last glimpse was Dhavenbahtek blocking the portal, just as Satorah reached him.

Thulu and I tumbled out onto hot sand, our heavy backpacks dragging us off balance. Hands quickly reached to help us up, and we were still sorting ourselves out when the group of elves came through with the Light One child. They fell through the portal, and we scrambled to get out of the way. The heat was incredible, and the light from the sun was weird, but I didn’t have time to do more than note it.

We waited for several long moments. At last, Dhavenbahtek came through, bloody sword in one hand. My relief at his appearance was short-lived.

Two things happened almost simultaneously that cause me to cry out.

I stared in horror as I saw the dagger protruding from his chest, just as the portal behind him flickered several times and disappeared. Yeah, that same portal that supposedly never closed.

Relics

Most of Thulu and La Fi’s clients are dead. Which is perfect since their detective agency caters to the supernatural. But a simple job finding a lost locket leads to a big case tracking relics for an ancient daemon.

The daemon needs the relics to keep a dangerous portal closed. His enemy, Gabriel, wants the relics to open the portal and give his people access to a new feeding ground – Earth.

Caught on live TV, other portals begin to open and the creatures of magic return to Earth. The people of Earth are not alone, but will soon wish they were.

When Gabriel threatens their family, Thulu and La Fi’s search becomes personal. The couple will need powerful help in the race to find the relics before Gabriel does. But maybe that’s what ghostly friends, magical allies and daemonic clients are for.

When the creatures of myth and magic return to Earth, they’re nothing like your mother’s fairy tales.

Delia Bridges is done living in the shadows cast by her ex-convict father and her football star brother. Attending Cook University will finally give her the chance to be her own person and hopefully find love at the same time. When she meets Wyatt Johnston, she knows immediately he’s the one.

Wyatt fulfills all of Delia’s requirements for the perfect man: he’s rich, handsome, and a talented forward for Cook’s soccer team. However, Wyatt turns out not to be the man she thought. When he dumps her and simultaneously ruins her reputation, she has to start over once again.

Levi Caldwell has every quality Delia doesn’t want in a boyfriend. He has no money, works for the maintenance staff at Cook, and has no problem sharing his judgmental opinions about how Delia is living her life. Despite her growing attraction for the tattooed drummer, Delia tries to avoid Levi. But when a new crisis threatens to destroy all she has rebuilt, she finds Levi is the only person she can trust.

Excerpt:

The rest of the sentence died in my throat as Levi reached for me. Before I could protest, his lips were pressing into mine. He kissed me in a way that made me momentarily forget what an awful idea it was for him to be kissing me at that second. His lips were soft and warm and I could feel the persistence behind his kiss. He wanted me to respond and I found myself yielding. I started to kiss him back. Allowing myself to get lost in the sensation of how good it felt to have his mouth on mine.
He had been a friend at first, but when we kissed, he set my blood on fire. His tongue wrapped around mine and I allowed his taste to consume me. His kiss was full of the promise that Levi would give me everything I always wanted.

January Black by Wendy S. Russo ~ Cover Reveal!

Sixteen-year-old genius Matty Ducayn is the son of The Hill’s commandant. As such, he’s expected to conform to a strict, unspoken code of conduct. Small acts of defiance over years—such as walking on the grass—have earned him a reputation for being unruly. When sarcastic test answers finally get Matty expelled from school, King Hadrian offers him a diploma if he can answer a deceptively simple question, and then dismisses the only answer. To prove his worth to society, Matty wrestles with the king’s word games, the kingdom’s historical record, and laws that don’t make sense. He meets Iris Locke, a street smart gardener, along the way. After enchanting him at a glance, Iris helps his research, keeps him out of trouble, and finally breaks his heart.

Alone again, Matty finds himself on collision course with a deadly law, one he will have to break to answer the king’s question. Was Hadrian challenging him, or teaching him a lesson? Without Iris, it won’t matter, because Matty won’t stand down for anyone else.

January Black is the 2013 Readers’ Favorite Silver Medal winner for YA-Coming of Age.

January Black will be available for pre-order on Amazon 11/28/2014.

About the Illustrator

Liliana Sanches started studying Visual Arts at the age of 16 and soon felt attracted to the Romantic artwork from the 19th century. The Pre-Raphaelites and Friedrich were her biggest inspirations at the time, and she felt compelled to explore this graphic language of desolated landscapes that were the reflection of the painter’s emotions.

After graduating college, specializing Graphic Design, she created her own business under the name of “Princess of Shadows.” Her style had now evolved and had technical knowledge to support it. Intricate concepts with a much better grasp of image composition and visual balance, and also used color and shape psychology to imprint her work on the viewer.

Along the years she has been working with musicians, authors and even other designers who have allowed her to express her creativity, develop visual communication skills and explore different graphic styles to better suit each project.

Nowadays, here personal work has been exploring the human psyche, imbuing it with a dark surreal feeling. Her biggest inspirations are J-Horror movies, dreams/ nightmares and mental health pathologies.

About the Author

Wendy S. Russo got her start writing in the sixth grade. That story involved a talisman with crystals that had to be found and assembled before bad things happened, and dialog that read like classroom roll call. Since then, she’s majored in journalism (for one semester), published poetry, taken a course on short novels, and watched most everything ever filmed by Quentin Tarantino. A Wyoming native transplanted in Baton Rouge, Wendy works for Louisiana State University as an IT analyst. She’s a wife, a mom, a Tiger, a Who Dat, and she falls asleep on her couch at 8:30 on weeknights.
